Mark G. Bristow (Director)

MRICS MAPM Cert Mgt BSc (Hons)

With over 25 years of experience working in the construction industry as a chartered surveyor and project manager, our director, Mark, has the knowledge, experience, and balance to provide expert guidance on a range of property issues. Mark has worked and advised upon both commercial and residential buildings but now focuses his time on residential buildings.

  1. Residential surveys (RICS Level 2 and 3)
  2. Landlord surveys to assess compliance with local authority requirements
  3. Residential rebuilding cost estimates (for insurance purposes)
  4. Energy efficiency advice to householders.

We provide an independent house survey service. We will take your instructions and use an industry-leading RICS template to tailor our service to meet your requirements.
We undertake

  • RICS level 2 surveys (previously known as homebuyers reports)
  • RICS Level 3 Surveys (previously known as building or structural surveys)
(Please note that RICS level 1 surveys need to be undertaken by a registered valuer for your area (these
can be found via local estate agents).
  • Surveys focused on rectifying individual building defects.

This has been a growth area within our business as local authorities particularly but not only Oxford City Council now require confirmation from a Chartered Surveyor that residential buildings have been “properly converted for tenanted occupation. We offer a service to work with landlords or their agents in identifying when buildings were converted and then survey them to assess whether or not they comply with the required regulations.

We will undertake basic measurements of buildings and then use our experience and the specialist data base from Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) (to whom we have a specialist subscription) to calculate the rebuilding cost of residential properties. This information is needed by building owners to ensure that they purchase a sufficient level of cover in case they need to claim against insurance.

With an impending climate crisis and increasing energy costs, we are passionate about helping householders reduce the energy usage in their buildings, thereby reducing costs and carbon emissions.

Mark has worked with the University of Oxford for the past five years in advising them and helping form a strategy to reduce energy demand and move away from fossil fuels. Using this approach and depth of knowledge, we can advise on sensible and affordable steps to reduce energy use, leading to the eventual introduction of Heat Pumps if that is the aim of our clients.

Mark,
Thank you for undertaking the structural survey of our house. You took the time to provide excellent initial guidance on the appropriate survey format. Once agreed we left the process in your capable hands, with the resulting survey being easy to understand, very informative and delivered in a very short timescale. We will have no hesitation in recommending you to others.
